Off & Running
a Blog of Life on the Run

Running Photo Tour of DC

Every place I travel, I run.

Of all of the places I've gone, running the Champs-Élysées to the Eiffel Tower was my favorite. Best out & back of my life, even with bleeding feet (I was breaking in new FiveFingers). Running a Catholic Retreat Center in South Africa was the most heartwrenching as I ran to the top of a hill and saw a cross overlooking the sunrise. I've even randomly found running buddies at conferences - most recently New Orleans, Louisiana. Running cities has allowed me to see things I would never see just walking or driving. It's the best kind of tourism.

I happen to live in America's most historic city - Washington, DC. Since moving to Capitol Hill in November, I've had two months of running around neighborhoods and the National Mall to see the city. There are so many new places to explore I doubt I'll ever get bored, especially after running the same trails for 5 years in Bethesda.

Did you know that DC has a Titanic Memorial?
It's on the Anacostia Riverwalk! (see below)

As you know, I'm in training to run a marathon. According to my trainer, I'm in the Patience Phase. This is the part where I have to go slow, be patient with myself, and know that it will all pay off on the long run. (pun intended)

Although I NEVER take my iPhone with me, I decided to make my 10-mile training run a photo tour of my city. From my house, I ran down the National Mall to the Lincoln Memorial, out to the Jefferson, through Navy Yard and home to soak my legs. Now I get to share it with you! This is what I saw:
